Plowden & Smith has entered into a partnership with Masterpiece London, becoming the fair’s Official Awards Partner for 2019.

Masterpiece Awards are presented to Masterpiece London exhibits and stands that are judged to be outstanding by a committee made up of leading authorities in the art and design world.

34 Masterpiece Awards will be given out across three categories: ‘Outstanding Display’ for stands that best demonstrate an imaginative approach to the combination of stand design, display and superb works of art; ‘Outstanding Exhibit’, for works of art which are judged to be outstanding – perhaps undiscovered, rare, exceptionally provenanced and of beauty; and ‘Masterpiece Highlights’, where Masterpiece’s 27 specialist vetting committees will each have the opportunity to nominate the object that best reflect scholarship, rarity and connoisseurship in their discipline.

Previous Masterpiece Fair Award winners include the galleries Ronald Phillips Ltd., Landau Fine Art, Daniel Crouch and Les Enluminures, New Art Centre, and Hill-Stone.

This year’s Masterpiece Fair Awards Committee comprises the Chairman of Masterpiece London, Philip Hewat-Jaboor; collectors Nicolas Cattalain, Maxime Davidson and Sarah Tyser; Financial Times Art Market columnist and Art Newspaper Editor-at-Large, Melanie Gerlis; RBC Senior Curator, Corrie Jackson; the collector and Partner at Linklaters, Andrew Jones; House & Garden Leading 100 Interior Designer, Douglas Mackie; and the art historian and former Director of the National Gallery London, Sir Nicholas Penny.
The selection of Masterpiece Fair Awards Winner will take place on Monday 24 June 2019, three days before the fair officially opens to the public. The 27 winning exhibits in the Masterpiece Highlights category will then form the basis of the daily Masterpiece Highlights tour programme.

Plowden & Smith Managing Director, Camilla Hughes-Hunt said: “We are delighted to build on the long association we have with this event and many of its exhibitors by partnering with the Masterpiece Fair Awards, recognising and rewarding excellence and innovation amongst the world’s most prestigious galleries.”
