On 7th March some familiar faces were shown on the local BBC One News’ programme, Look East.

The wooden statue Samson, who for many years stood outside the house of the Seventeenth Century Lord Mayor of Norwich, was the focus of a special report.

Interviews with Jenny Caynes of the Museum of Norwich at Bridewell, and our own Senior Decorative Arts Conservator, Loredana Mannina were included in the feature – although the unarguable star of the show was Samson!

Samson came to Plowden & Smith over three years ago for treatment to remove over 60 layers of lead paint and to consolidate his partially rotten core.

Samson is due to return home next week, but not before reporter Shaun Peel got a chance to visit him at our studio. During his visit to film an interview with Loredana, he got to get a sneak peak of the restored wooden statue, and the Plowden & Smith team enjoyed a rare opportunity to see how news features are filmed.

At the time of posting, the BBC Look East report on Samson can be watched on here (skip to 22:22).

Christmas Holidays: Please note our office and studio will close on Friday 20th Dec until Thursday 2nd Jan.
